The San Francisco 49ers took on the Los Angeles Rams at Melbourne Cricket Ground in Week 1, and Kyle Shanahan's team walked out with a 27-7 victory in what was an impressive win in every aspect.
Last week, the 49ers were viewed as a top-10 team in the NFL, as USA Today's Nate Davis had them at No. 7 in his weekly power rankings, but after this win, San Francisco has climbed all the way up to No. 2 for Week 2.
"Their 'Sleep tight' tweet served as the mic drop of Week 1 after the Niners, who were at least close to full strength after juggling so many injuries in 2025, stuck it to the apparently jet-lagged Rams in Australia," Davis wrote. "The NFC West is already shaping up as a three-way heavyweight bout once again, and the 49ers − if healthy − have
certainly shown they've got the goods to be a Super Sunday threat. They were clicking in all three phases out of the box."
The only team ahead of the 49ers in Davis' power rankings are the Seattle Seahawks, who beat the New England Patriots 13-10 in the Super Bowl rematch despite losing quarterback Sam Darnold to a hip injury on the first drive of their season.
San Francisco could claim the top spot for Week 3 if they beat the Miami Dolphins at Levi's Stadium on Sunday and the Seahawks fall to the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium.
