Deebo Samuel didn't waste a lot of time helping the San Francosc 49ers. The veteran receiver scored his first touchdown back in a 49ers uniform in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Rams, hauling in a 15-yard pass from Brock Purdy with 12:57 left in the fourth quarter in Australia.
Lined up in shotgun on second-and-8 from the Rams' 15, Purdy found Samuel short right for the score. Eddy Pineiro's extra point extended San Francisco's lead to 24-7 over Los Angeles.

The touchdown marked Samuel's first with the 49ers since returning to the team he spent his first six NFL seasons with. The 49ers traded Samuel to the Washington Commanders in March 2025 for
a fifth-round pick after he requested a move. He spent one season in Washington, catching 72 passes for 727 yards and five touchdowns before re-signing with San Francisco this offseason on a one-year deal worth up to $7 million, stepping back into a receiver room thinned by Ricky Pearsall's knee injury.
San Francisco drafted Samuel in the second round out of South Carolina in 2019, and he developed into one of the league's most versatile weapons, earning All-Pro honors in 2021 with 1,405 receiving yards. Across those six seasons, Samuel totaled 334 catches for 4,792 yards and 22 receiving touchdowns, adding 1,143 rushing yards and 20 more scores on the ground.
