San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw will have to sit out Monday night's Week 6 game against the Washington Commanders after the NFL upheld Greenlaw's one-game suspension.
Hearing officer James Thrash, jointly appointed by the NFL and the NFLPA, has upheld the one-game suspension of San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw.

Greenlaw was suspended for headbutting Seattle Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones, who wasn't wearing a helmet during a sideline scuffle in the second quarter of the 49ers' Week 5 win. Head coach Kyle Shanahan, who learned of the suspension when the NFL announced it, told reporters on a Monday conference call that he was "disappointed" in the decision.

Greenlaw has a history of run-ins with officials and opponents. He was suspended for the Broncos' Week 8 game last season for an altercation with an official. He was ejected from a Week 10 game against the Chargers in 2022 for a helmet-to-helmet hit on quarterback Justin Herbert, and he was disqualified early from another game the following season after a sideline kerfuffle with the Eagles.
Rookie linebacker Jaden Dugger appears to be the 49ers' next option at Will linebacker against the Commanders. Dugger played there after Greenlaw's Week 5 ejection.
