The San Francisco 49ers on Monday announced a couple of roster moves and didn't activate wide receiver Christian Kirk in a move that could signal good news for veteran WR Mike Evans.
Kirk's status was downgraded from questionable to out when the 49ers announced their Week 6 roster moves. The alternative was activating Kirk off IR where he remains after having his practice window opened in the lead up to Week 6.
Evans is officially questionable with rib and Achilles injuries. Had he been trending toward not playing it stands to reason the 49ers would've activated the veteran Kirk to bolster their receiving depth. San Francisco still has two more weeks to activate Kirk or he'll revert to season-ending IR. Since he was given a return designation
when he was placed on IR at final cuts, he counts against the 49ers eight IR returns for the season so the odds are high he'll eventually make his way to the roster unless he suffered another setback in his return from his calf strain.
San Francisco did add to its WR depth by way of practice squad elevations. They brought up WR Malik Turner along with linebacker Jalen Graham who will fill in for the injured Garret Wallow. Wallow was ruled out on the injury report with a hamstring injury. Turner will give the 49ers special teams some depth.
With Turner up and Kirk officially out, the 49ers WR depth chart includes Evans, Turner, Brandin Cooks, Jacob Cowing and Jordan Watkins.
