The San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday announced the return of former undrafted defensive lineman Evan Anderson. Defensive end Titus Leo was waived/injured in a corresponding move.
Anderson was let go early in training camp after spending his first two seasons in San Francisco. Now he returns to a defensive tackle room that is looking for quality depth while a handful of players work through injury issues. The 49ers waived Anderson on the first day of camp in a move that brought veteran Kevin Givens back to the club. Now Anderson will get a shot to carve out a roster spot or a practice squad role in Tuesday's joint practice with the Los Angeles Chargers and the team's final two preseason games.
The 49ers signed Anderson after the 2024 draft. He played
in 12 games with one start in his rookie season and racked up 24 tackles with 1.0 sacks. He also forced a fumble. His role was limited to that of a practice squad player in his second season.
Leo was added when the 49ers' DE depth was depleted. He was banged up after the 49ers' preseason opener. If he clear waivers he'll revert to San Francisco's IR.
