San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan on Monday had some additional information on a quartet of players hurt in the team's Week 2 win over the Miami Dolphins.
The 49ers in the 35-13 victory saw wide receiver Demarcus Robinson, defensive tackle James Thompson Jr., defensive end Romello Height and wide receiver Mike Evans all leave the game early with different ailments. According to Shanahan at least two of those four will miss multiple weeks.
Here's the update on each from Shanahan's Monday conference call with reporters:
WR Mike Evans (hip)
The Evans injury didn't sound serious immediately following the game. Shanahan indicated Evans would've re-entered the game had the 49ers not been up 35-6 in the fourth quarter. We may see Evans' practice schedule and workload
adjusted leading up to Week 3 with Shanahan saying the team will have to manage the ailment per ESPN's Nick Wagoner, but it doesn't sound like the veteran wide receiver will be out for any extended period.
WR Demarcus Robinson (ankle)
Shanahan on Sunday said Robinson likely suffered a high ankle sprain. He confirmed the diagnosis Monday and said Robinson will miss three-to-six weeks per Wagoner. There's a chance Robinson goes on IR where he'd be eligible to return. The injury happened in the second quarter Sunday when Robinson made a 20-yard grab that took the 49ers inside the 5. He landed awkwardly and hopped off the field on one foot before being taken on a cart to the locker room.
DT James Thompson Jr. (ankle)
Just like Robinson, the early diagnosis of high ankle sprain was confirmed by Shanahan on Monday. He's also looking at a three-to-six month recovery and may be on track for an IR stint according to NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco. Shanahan on Sunday said the team will need to look into bringing in help at defensive tackle with injuries hitting the already thin group.
DE Romello Height (hand)
Height suffered a broken hand per the Athletic's Matt Barrows. He'll need surgery, but he's not ruled out for Week 3 yet. It's unclear when the rookie injured his hand during the game. Height on Sunday notched his first career sack.
