The San Francisco 49ers have suffered several injuries at wide receiver this year, as Ricky Pearsall, De'Zhaun Stribling, Christian Kirk and Demarcus Robinson all landed on injured reserve in the first couple of weeks of the season.
San Francisco showed their desperation last week when they brought back former second-round pick Dante Pettis, but he suffered an injury in practice and landed on injured reserve before he even suited up for the team again.
On Thursday, the 49ers officially pulled the cord on the Pettis experiment, releasing him from injured reserve with an injury settlement. Now, he's free to sign anywhere, including back with San Francisco again after an agreed-upon amount of time.
In his seven years in the NFL, Pettis has caught
92 passes for 1,231 yards and 13 touchdowns. In 28 games with the 49ers over three years, he caught 38 passes for 576 yards and seven scores.
