The San Francisco 49ers on Friday parted ways with veteran running back Patrick Taylor Jr. after reaching an injury settlement. Taylor is now a free agent.
Because he was on IR he was not on the 90-man roster so this doesn't count as one of San Francisco's necessary cuts to get their roster down to 53.
Taylor was on IR for the 49ers after suffering an injury leading up to San Francisco's second preseason game. He was placed on IR on Aug. 20, the day of San Francisco's preseason matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers. The nature of his injury was never disclosed. Taylor started the 49ers' preseason opener vs. the Tennessee Titans and played 22 offensive snaps. He lost five yards on five carries.
Veteran Khalil Herbert signed to take his place.
Taylor
entered the NFL in 2020 as an undrafted free agent with the Green Bay Packers. He made his way to San Francisco in 2024 and played in 13 games for them. In 13 games he posted 183 rushing yards and one touchdown on 39 carries.
Last season he went on season-ending IR on Aug. 19 and was in the mix for a back end of the roster spot when he went down with his injury this year.
