The San Francisco 49ers are 4-0, but general manager John Lynch isn't approaching the NFL trade deadline as if his roster is finished. With the Nov. 10 deadline approaching, Lynch said San Francisco remains open to finding ways to improve the team, particularly as injuries have tested the roster early in the season.
“I think you’re always in active mode," Lynch said on KNBR. “We’re constantly looking to improve our football team. You talk to GMs, you stay abreast of what’s out there, what’s available.”
That doesn't necessarily mean San Francisco will make a splash before the deadline. Lynch emphasized that teams have to put themselves in a position to make meaningful moves when opportunities arise. With a bevy of injuries at positions like defensive
line and receiver, the 49ers could be fits for some players potentially on the trade block. But, that doesn't necessarily mean San Francisco is going to make a deal anytime soon.
The 49ers have already shown why depth could matter. San Francisco is dealing with injuries to several important players, including defensive lineman Nick Bosa and fullback Kyle Juszczyk, while safety Marques Sigle and cornerback Upton Stout are also dealing with injuries. The team has lost several other key contributors on both sides of the ball, like receivers Ricky Pearsall, De'Zhaun Stribling and Demarcus Robinson, as well as defensive lineman Alfred Collins.
There is plenty of time between now and the trade deadline, but it sounds as is the 49ers are at least keeping their eyes and ears open to potential trades that could help bolster their Super Bowl run in 2026.
