The San Francisco 49ers added another wide receiver to their practice squad roster ahead of their Week 9 return to action.
Veteran WR KhaDarel Hodge is officially back with the 49ers on their practice squad according to an announcement from the club Monday. With a practice squad spot open there was no corresponding roster move.
Hodge is a familiar face for the 49ers. He spent training camp and preseason with the team and initially landed on the practice squad. He was eventually promoted to the active roster in Week 2 and was released after Week 3. Now he'll be back with the practice squad where he'll have an opportunity to get up on game days as a special teams contributor.
The 49ers have three other receivers on their practice squad, including
undrafted rookies Wesley Grimes and Will Pauling, and third-year veteran Xavier Smith.
Hodge this season played in three games for the 49ers and caught one pass for 18 yards. He played on 37 special teams snaps and 51 offensive snaps in a banged up receiving corps. With question marks in the receiver room coming out of the Bye, Hodge gives the 49ers more internal depth they can lean on if they need bodies at wide receiver when they face the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday at Levi's Stadium.
