The San Francisco 49ers' pass rush is extremely injured, and general manager John Lynch offered some small updates on two of the team's biggest names: Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams
Lynch said during a Thursday radio interview with KBNR that the 49ers will likely be without Bosa again in Week 4 against the Denver Broncos, while Williams is edging closer to a return.
"We'll likely be out this week, and then we'll go from there," Lynch said. "When he's right, we'll have him back out there."
Bosa sustained a calf injury in practice last week and missed Week 3. While he didn't land on injured reserve, it sounds like the ailment could last a while.
Williams, meanwhile, practiced this week for the first time in a year after recovering from an ACL injury.
He is on the physically unable to perform list and is not eligible to return until Week 5. This week's practice window opens his path back.
"He looks excellent," Lynch said of Williams. "I've been very proud of Myk with how he's handled it, how he's embraced it."
Lynch acknowledged the mental grind of a long-term injury. When the team told Williams he would start on the PUP list, Lynch said, "I know he was upset, but he just went back to work."
Lynch said Williams is "chomping at the bit" to get on the field. "He'll make us a better football team the second he's out there," Lynch said.
Left tackle Trent Williams is also being monitored. He did not finish last Sunday's game and sat out Wednesday's practice with what was described as a stinger. Lynch said the team hopes to get him back on the practice field Thursday.
"Trent is playing at such a high level," Lynch said. "Provided everything goes well, we're hopeful that we have him."
The 49ers are one of the most injured teams this year, with several big names missing a lot of time. While Bosa might take longer to return, the hope for Lynch and company is that both the edge rusher Williams and the left tackle Williams come back soon.
