The San Francisco 49ers on Saturday officially placed wide receiver De'Zhaun Stribling on IR and promoted defensive end Ogbo Okoronkwo to the active roster in a corresponding move. San Francisco chose not to elevate any players from the practice squad for Week 2.
Stribling suffered an ankle injury in the 49ers' season opener that required surgery. He'll miss about 10 weeks according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.
The second-round pick's vacant roster spot was occupied by Okoronkwo who played in the regular season opener as a standard practice squad elevation. Now he'll play in Week 2 as a member of the 53-man roster. Okoronkwo, 31, put up three pressures in 12 pass rush snaps against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1 according to Pro Football Focus.
That's the second-most on the club behind defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa who had five. The three pressures were Okoronkwo's most in a game since the last week of the 2024 season, and helped the 49ers pressure Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford 14 times.
There's no word yet on how the 49ers will fill the newly-opened practice squad spot.
Okoronkwo and the 49ers will host the Miami Dolphins at Levi's Stadium on Sunday for a 1:25pm Pacific Time kickoff.
