It appears the San Francisco 49ers may have dodged a season-defining injury issue in training camp. Running back Christian McCaffrey missed Monday's practice due to "tightness," but it doesn't sound the club is concerned about his long-term health.
Offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak spoke with reporters after Monday's practice and said the club is working to manage McCaffrey's workload due to some soreness per NFL Media's Nick Wagoner. The 30-year-old was a participant in each of the 49ers' training camp sessions up until Monday, so a day off isn't a huge surprise.
Still, with McCaffrey's injury history and outsized workload last season any time he misses is going to raise a red flag. It would be a pretty significant shock if the All-Pro RB who
led the NFL in touches a season ago participated in the team's preseason opener Thursday evening at Levi's Stadium against the Tennessee Titans.
However, with a joint practice against the Titans on Tuesday it would make sense for the 49ers to get McCaffrey some work in that environment before getting him a day off Wednesday and Thursday.
