San Francisco 49ers rookie defensive lineman Gracen Halton made one of the biggest plays of Sunday's win over the Seattle Seahawks, turning a potential end-of-half possession into a defensive touchdown.
With Seattle taking over at its own 4-yard line with 18 seconds remaining in the second quarter, the Seattle Seahawks handed the ball to running back George Holani. Halton got his hand on the ball, forced a fumble and recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown, giving San Francisco a pivotal score in the 32-29 win.

Halton explained his thought process behind the play on "Nightcap," saying he initially was focused on creating a stop deep in Seattle territory before recognizing an opportunity
to force a turnover.
“My main mindset was to get off that rock and, you know, really is to get some knockback into that end zone,” Halton said. “So if he was to run, I can, you know, tackle him inbounds and, you know, get a safety or something. But I seen that ball and I knew I wasn't going to be able to tackle him. So I stuck my hand out, you know, touch that ball, and, you know, I felt it come out.”
Halton initially went to the ground and didn't immediately realize he had recovered the fumble.
“Fell to the ground and I hear everybody screaming, and I turn around and, you know, the ball right there, right there in my hands,” he said.
He also joked about Holani's ball security, describing the running back's carry memorably.
“Yeah, man. You hold it like a loaf of chicken, man,” Halton said.

The fourth-round pick out of Oklahoma, selected No. 107 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, has continued to develop during his rookie season. But against Seattle, Halton recorded three tackles and two tackles for loss to go along with his first career sack, forced fumble and fumble-recovery touchdown. He has 14 combined tackles and four tackles for a loss on the year.
On a 49ers team decimated by injuries on both sides of the ball, having a young player like Halton develop on the defensive line is huge for an undefeated team with Super Bowl aspirations.
