As the San Francisco 49ers finalized their initial 53-man roster before departing for their Week 1 opener in Australia, one prominent name was glaringly absent from the official list: Brandon Aiyuk.
General manager John Lynch made it clear that the rift between the wide receiver and the franchise remains entirely unresolved.
"No, nothing changed there. He's on the Reserve/Left Squad List, and as such, it's, you know, he's just kind of not on our roster," Lynch stated bluntly on August 31, confirming that Aiyuk will not collect his scheduled September 1 option bonus. That bonus would've been worth $24.935 million according to Over the Cap.
When asked directly if Aiyuk loses out on any payment while remaining on the list, Lynch delivered a single-word
response: "Correct."

Lynch’s icy delivery signals that the former standout weapon is completely out of the team's operational picture. Drafted in the first round in 2020, Aiyuk developed into an All-Pro-caliber receiver, earning a lucrative four-year, $120 million contract extension in 2024.
However, relations deteriorated rapidly behind the scenes, marked by contract disputes and public social media frustration. The 49ers ultimately placed him on the Reserve/Left Squad list, effectively removing him from the active group.
With Lynch confirming the team has no obligation to pay his upcoming bonus, San Francisco is moving into the 2026 campaign with Aiyuk firmly in its rearview mirror.
