Brock Purdy has been one of the NFL's most efficient quarterbacks through two weeks of the 2026 season, and coaches and executives around the league are taking notice.
The Athletic's Jeff Howe spoke with several league sources who offered high praise for the 49ers' quarterback, including a former NFL general manager who spoke on condition of anonymity.
"He is so smart, accurate and processes what he sees so quickly," the former GM said. "He is so underrated because the physical skill set doesn't stand out, but he plays the game at such a high level. It's not just because of the talent around him. I don't think he gets enough credit for the way he helps elevate and maximize those around him."
A defensive coach echoed that sentiment, pointing to
Purdy's ability to create outside of structure.
"He can see the field," the coach said. "He can scramble with the best of them and create off schedule."
Purdy also drew praise from NFL Films analyst Greg Cosell, who broke down the technical side of his game on 95.7 The Game.
"Brock Purdy plays the position with technique, details, nuance and the discipline that is required to play the position at a high level in the NFL," Cosell said. "QB play, if you reduce it to its simplest level — Brock Purdy epitomizes this. It's throwing the ball to the right receiver at the right time with the right kind of throw."
The praise lines up with the numbers through two games. Purdy leads the entire NFL in completion percentage at 80.4%, completing 45 of 56 attempts for 492 yards, five touchdowns and just one interception. His 8.9% touchdown rate and 1.8% interception rate both rank near the top of the league, and he's racked up 28 first downs on the season.
Purdy was efficient in both of San Francisco's wins. In the season-opening rout of the Rams in Australia, he completed 25 of 34 passes for 205 yards and three touchdowns. He was even sharper in Week 2 against Miami, going 20-of-22 for 287 yards and two more scores without an interception, while also adding 30 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground.
Two games into the season, Purdy's blend of accuracy, decision-making and off-schedule playmaking has him squarely in the conversation as one of the league's top quarterbacks early in 2026.
