The San Francisco 49ers have engineered the most prolific touchdown-scoring offense through the first three games of an NFL season since 2000, according to CBS Sports'Doug Clawson.
San Francisco has converted 13 of its 27 offensive drives into touchdowns, establishing a 48.1% touchdown rate that paces the league and is better than some of the best offenses over the past 27 seasons.

If this pace holds up, it bodes well for Brock Purdy's MVP candidacy. Among the previous high-scoring groups to open a year with elite drive efficiency, five of
the next seven listed teams featured that season's Most Valuable Player: Patrick Mahomes in 2018, Tom Brady in 2007, Lamar Jackson in 2019, Aaron Rodgers in 2020 and Josh Allen in 2024.
This didn't always equate to postseason success, though. Six of the seven teams made the playoffs, but only the New England Patriots in 2007 made the Super Bowl in a losing effort.
Either way, it's a great start for the 49ers in their hopes of returning to the Super Bowl. Purdy drives the ship with an NFL-leading seven passing touchdowns while completing 72.3 percent of his passes for 789 yards. Running back Christian McCaffrey bolsters the attack, adding 166 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 35 carries alongside 104 receiving yards.
The 49ers will look to maintain this historical offensive pace as the season moves past September.
