The San Francisco 49ers may have won their season opener against the Los Angeles Rams by a 27-7 score in Australia, but they also lost one of their most intriguing offensive weapons, as rookie wide receiver De'Zhaun Stribling suffered an ankle injury.
With Stribling expected to be sidelined for atleast a month, the 49ers are looking for help at wideout, which is likely why they've promoted KhaDarel Hodge from their practice squad on Wednesday (via ESPN's Jeremy Fowler).
Hodge, 31, played at Alcorn State, Hinds Community College and Prairie View A&M before signing with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent in 2018. He spent one year in Los Angeles, two with the Cleveland Browns, one with the Detroit Lions and the last four with the Atlanta
Falcons.
In 119 career games, he's caught 67 passes for 1,026 yards and two touchdowns while also playing a pivotal role on special teams, even making a Pro Bowl for his work in the third phase in 2024.
San Francisco elevated Hodge from the practice squad last week, so with Stribling down, this move makes sense. It will also be interesting to see if Jordan Watkins is a healthy scratch again in Week 2, as he was in the opener.
