The San Francisco 49ers are taking another step toward getting the proverbial band back together.
With their acquisition of defensive tackle DeForest Buckner in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts, the 49ers now have seven players on their 2026 roster that were also on the first team head coach Kyle Shanahan took to the Super Bowl in 2019.
Buckner is the third player from that team who has left the 49ers and since returned. Linebacker Dre Greenlaw joined the Denver Broncos in 2025, only to re-sign with San Francisco this offseason. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel also left for the 2025 campaign when he was traded to the Washington Commanders. He re-signed this offseason when WR Ricky Pearsall went down with a season-ending knee injury.
Here's the list
of seven players from the 2019 Super Bowl team that are now with San Francisco:
- FB Kyle Juszczyk
- WR Deebo Samuel
- TE George Kittle
- DT DeForest Buckner
- DE Nick Bosa
- LB Fred Warner
- LB Dre Greenlaw
That list grows substantially if we only rewind to the 2023 Super Bowl where 14 players remain on the roster:
- QB Brock Purdy
- RB Christian McCaffrey
- FB Kyle Juszczyk
- WR Deebo Samuel
- TE George Kittle
- TE Brayden Willis
- LT Trent Williams
- RT Colton McKivitz
- C Jake Brendel
- DE Nick Bosa
- LB Fred Warner
- LB Dre Greenlaw
- CB Deommodore Lenoir
- S Ji'Ayir Brown
That list doesn't include DT Kevin Givens and LB Jalen Graham who are both on the 49ers' practice squad.
San Francisco enters its Week 8 Bye with a 6-1 record and a very strong claim to being the best team in the NFC. Should they handle business after the Bye and make the postseason, the 49ers will have a ton of experience with deep playoff runs on their roster.
