San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has been on the reserve/left-squad list since last year, when he disappeared during his rehab from a torn ACL and stopped reporting to the stadium for work.
Nwo, after hiring NFL superagent Drew Rosenhaus, Aiyuk has reportedly filed his paperwork for reinstatement and is set to return to the team's SAP Performance Center on Friday. While Aiyuk is still on San Francisco's roster, he made it pretty clear this offseason that he wanted to play for the Washington Commanders in 2026.
However, according to ESPN's Dan Graziano, the Commanders aren't expected to be in the market for Aiyuk's services if/when he's reinstated.
Aiyuk famously had a fued with his former college teammate and Commanders starting
quarterback Jayden Daniels before the season started. That connection was supposed to be what helped bring Aiyuk to Washington, but now it could be what keeps it from happening.
The 28-year-old wideout has caught 294 passes for 4,305 yards and 25 touchdowns in 69 games during his time with the 49ers. However, he hasn't been on a field for game action or practice with a team since tearing his ACL in Week 7 of the 2024 season.
San Francisco could honestly use wide receiver help with so many injuries at the position, but with everything that Aiyuk has done and said over the last two years, it seems very unlikely that he'll suit up for the 49ers again.
