Tom Brady has seen plenty of great quarterbacks, and he believes Brock Purdy belongs in that conversation.
"Brock Purdy's playing as well as anybody, should be considered in the tier one QB discussions, at least he is in my eyes," Brady said. "Playing within the system, throwing the ball accurately, no negative plays, getting his team in and out of the right plays, I love the way that he's managing every single game."
Through three games, Purdy has looked elite. He's completed 72.3% of his passes for 789 yards, nine touchdowns and one interception, averaging 9.5 yards per attempt. He has not been sacked, and he has not fumbled. He's also added 93 rushing yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.
His best game for efficiency came against Miami, when
he hit 90.9% of his attempts for 287 yards and two touchdowns. Against Arizona, he threw for 297 yards and four touchdowns, including an 82-yard completion, in a 36-30 win. In the opener against the Rams, he went 25 of 34 for 205 yards and three touchdowns in a 27-7 victory.
That's the kind of efficient, mistake-free football Brady described. Purdy is getting the ball out on time, putting it where it needs to go and keeping the offense on schedule. The 49ers are 3-0 and have scored 98 points, the second most in the league. All while losing receivers right and left. By the end of the Cardinals game, Purdy was down to tight end George Kittle, running back Christian McCaffrey and receivers Jordan Watkins and Jacob Cowing. Mike Evans may not be ready for Week 4, and the 49ers added Brandin Cooks and Dante Pettis as reserve players to potentially join the starting roster.
Next up is a Week 4 matchup against a Denver defense that has eight sacks, tied for seventh in the league. Purdy's ability to avoid negative plays will be tested, and Brady's comments suggest he expects the 49ers' quarterback to be up for it.
