San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Raheem Morris was supposed to turn 50-years old Sept. 3, the day after his team boarded a flight to Australia.
Time changes and the length of the flight caused Morris to actually miss his 50th birthday.
As noted by ESPN's Adam Schefter, the 49ers got on their flight to Australia the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 2 Pacific Time.
Their flight arrived in Australia on Friday, Sept. 4 Australia Eastern Standard Time, meaning Morris never got to actually experience Sept. 3 − his 50th birthday.
Of course, just because Morris didn't experience the date of his birthday in Pacific Time doesn't mean the day didn't happen. He just got to celebrate his Australian Time birthday, which was Sept. 4.
Despite the fact he reached
the landmark birthday in Australia, it's hard to imagine Morris did much celebrating. Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters he's yet to get out much because the first couple of days were spent trying to acclimate to the new time zone while doing the typical weekly coaching preparation.
The 49ers will get a couple of extra days off when they arrive back in the United States after their game, so perhaps Morris will get a chance to celebrate then. Particularly if his team gets a win over the Rams in Melbourne.
