Jake Moody has found a new landing spot. The Baltimore Ravens signed the former San Francisco 49ers kicker to their practice squad, giving the 2023 third-round pick another shot after a turbulent 12 months.
Moody's path back to the NFL has been anything but smooth. San Francisco drafted him with the No. 99 overall pick out of Michigan, where he won the Lou Groza Award and earned two All-American selections. He opened his rookie year strong, converting 21-of-25 field goals, but regressed in 2024, making just 24-of-34. After starting the 2025 season 1-for-3, the 49ers moved on, turning to Eddy Pineiro, who went on to earn a multi-year extension.
Moody bounced from Chicago to Washington last season, going a combined 18-of-20 on field goals and 13-of-14
on extra points across eight games. He re-signed with the Commanders in March on a one-year deal and entered this year's training camp competing for the starting job, but lost the battle to rookie Drew Stevens and was released.
The move to Baltimore comes as the Ravens have gotten a shaky look from kicker Tyler Loop this preseason. Loop missed field goal tries from 51 and 58 yards in Baltimore's most recent preseason game, finishing the exhibition slate 5-of-8 (62.5%).
Adding Moody to the practice squad gives the Ravens an experienced option to develop or lean on if Loop's struggles continue into the regular season. For Moody, it's a chance to rebuild his standing after a career that started with early promise but has been defined by instability ever since.
