Four-time All-Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski believes Brock Purdy should be at the top of the NFL MVP race.
Appearing on Up & Adams with Kay Adams, the former All-Pro tight end made the case for the 49ers quarterback, putting Purdy ahead of Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen in his current MVP rankings.
“Brock Purdy should be the favorite," he said. "Brock Purdy should be No. 1 and then it should be Lamar Jackson, and then it should be Josh Allen,” Gronkowski said. “I think Brock Purdy might be the No. 1 quarterback in the NFL that can scan a defense, process a defense, read the coverage, go to the guy that's open, and get the job done using his brain."
It's a strong endorsement for Purdy, who has San Francisco off to a 4-0 start while playing some of the
best football of his career. Through four games, Purdy has completed 69.9% of his passes for 1,007 yards, 11 touchdowns and one interception. He's also added 93 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Purdy has thrown at least two touchdowns in every game this season, including four in the 49ers' 36-30 win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4. He followed that with 218 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 24-14 victory over the Denver Broncos.
The numbers support the overall offensive success. San Francisco has scored 122 points, ranks second in the NFL in total offense with 1,556 yards and leads the league with 6.8 yards per play and an 8.9 net yards-per-pass-attempt average.
“Brock Purdy is definitely up there,” Gronkowski added. “If he's not number one, he's definitely, no doubt, top three.”
