Peter King thinks Brock Purdy and Kyle Shanahan have at least one Super Bowl title in them.
The longtime NFL writer made that case on KNBR’s “Murph & Markus" show while explaining how successful the San Francisco 49ers head coach and quarterback have been during their five seasons together so far.
“Brock Purdy’s got 10 years left, Kyle Shanahan’s probably got 10 years left,” King said. “Who has a better coach-quarterback future? All I know is that Kyle Shanahan is one hell of a football coach. And he’s got a guy who half of America still will not give any credit to ... in Brock Purdy. And all I would say is, do you watch the games? Do you watch the throws that Brock Purdy makes under pressure?
“I think the 49ers are going to win at least one Super
Bowl with these guys. I would be very surprised if they don’t.”
The duo is in its fifth season together. Purdy, the last pick of the 2022 draft, took over for the injured Jimmy Garoppolo that December. As a starter, he is 35-15 in the regular season and 5-3 in the playoffs, including a Super Bowl LVIII appearance after the 2023 season. They got close in 2022, too, before Purdy's injury in the NFC Championship game against the Eagles.
Purdy is playing at an MVP level in 2026. He has completed 98 of 142 passes for 1,196 yards, 13 touchdowns and two interceptions. He leads the NFL in touchdown passes and ranks second among qualified passers with a 119.3 rating. The 49ers are 5-0 and host Washington on Monday night.
