There was a welcome sight for the San Francisco 49ers offense when they began warmups for their joint practice with the Tennessee Titans on Tuesday.
According to ESPN's Nick Wagoner, wide receiver Mike Evans was in uniform and preparing to practice for the first time since he went down with a quad issue on Aug. 3.
While no injury issue is a positive, it never seemed like Evans was in danger of missing significant time. He's a soon-to-be 33-year-old veteran who is entering his 13th season in the NFL. The 49ers are more concerned with getting Evans to the regular season healthy than they are with getting him through a full slate of training camp practices.
Wagoner frequently noted throughout the last week that Evans was doing workouts on a side field
that indicated he was nearing a return. With the Titans in for joint practice it will give Evans an opportunity to get some reps against another team as he prepares for the regular season. Whether Evans plays in Thursday's preseason opener against Tennessee remains to be seen, but it would be a small surprise to see him play any significant amount of snaps, if any.
Evans's return means the top of the 49ers WR depth chart is whole once again with Evans slotting in at the top, followed by rookie De'Zhaun Stribling and veteran Deebo Samuel.
The 49ers and Titans face off Thursday at 6:00pm Pacific Time at Levi's Stadium for their preseason opener.
