The San Francisco 49ers forced their first turnover of the 2026 NFL season in the second quarter of their Week 1 game against the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne, Australia.
Cornerback Renardo Green, covering Rams reciever Puka Nacua, hauled in the interception at the 49ers' 13-yard line with 8:52 left in the second quarter. Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, from the 49ers' 35-yard line, tried to hit Nacua on a long pass, but Green intercepted it.

Defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa, who the 49ers acquired in an offseason trade with the Dallas Cowboys, could claim the assist on this turnover after forcing Stafford to attempt the pass a bit earlier than he may
have wanted.
That was Green's second career interception, as the third-year cornerback had just one other in his previous two seasons. Green, 25, was a second-round pick in 2024 out of Florida State.
