The San Francisco 49ers, ahead of their Week 7 matchup with the Atlanta Falcons, are making some small changes to their practice squad on Wednesday.
San Francisco announced that they've released linebacker Eugene Asante from their practice squad and have signed defensive lineman Naquan Jones to take his spot.
Asante, 25, joined the 49ers' practice squad last week after stints with the Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons, Arizona Cardinals and Houston Gamblers (UFL). In nine UFL games, he had 34 tackles, two passes defensed and two forced fumbles. However, he's yet to play a single snap in the NFL regular season.
The 49ers released Jones, 28, on Tuesday, after he played 45 defensive snaps and recorded two tackles for the team in three
games this year. He joins Kevin Givens and McKinnley Jackson as the trio of defensive linemen on San Francisco's practice squad, which is decent depth at the position.
