The San Francisco 49ers avoided catastrophe with fullback Kyle Juszczyk according to an update from ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan immediately following the 49ers' Week 4 win over the Miami Dolphins said the team didn't think there was any damage to Juszczyk's ACL, but an MRI would need to confirm it. Shanahan said the team was hopeful it was just a sprain.
Schefter's report indicated there's a little more to the injury which will keep Juszczyk out two-to-three weeks. The MRI revealed a bone bruise along with a sprain.
While the 49ers don't want to miss Juszcyzk for any time, they avoided a long-term absence which is good news.
Juszczyk will be out at least for the 49ers' Week 5 game vs. the Seattle Seahawks and their Week 6 matchup
with the Washington Commanders. If he misses a third week he'd be out for a road tilt against the Atlanta Falcons. After that it's the 49ers' Bye week.
It wouldn't be a huge surprise if the 49ers held out Juszczyk for the three weeks to give him the extra week off with the Bye to ensure he's healthy for the second half of the year.
