The San Francisco 49ers on Saturday officially announced the return of defensive end Mykel Williams, but they also brought back the player they released to make room for the second-year DE.
Williams is making his 2026 season debut after tearing his ACL in Week 9 a season ago. He spent training camp and the first four weeks of the regular season on the PUP list. Now the 2025 first-round pick is back to bring much-needed depth and run-stopping chops to San Francisco's defensive front just in time for them to take on the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field on Sunday.
The 49ers on Friday released veteran DE Ogbo Okoronkwo to clear a roster spot for Williams. They did so a day early so they could re-sign him and elevate him to the active roster for Sunday's
contest, which they did as part of their Saturday roster moves.
San Francisco also elevated TE Jack Stoll. With fullback Kyle Juszczyk out, the 49ers will need more TE depth to make up for Juszczyk's absence. That's where Stoll comes in. The five-year veteran has played in 76 games during his career, and he'll give the team additional depth alongside George Kittle, Luke Farrell and Brayden Willis.
The 49ers and Seahawks kick off at 1:25pm Pacific Time on Sunday.
