The San Francisco 49ers on Sunday will face one of their toughest tests of the early season when they host the Denver Broncos at Levi's Stadium. Their injury problems don't make the task of facing the Broncos any less daunting.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan on Wednesday spoke with reporters before the team opened its practice schedule for the week. He gave an initial participation report that included eight players − five of whom are starters − sitting out to begin the week.
Here's who Shanahan said will not suit up Wednesday:
- WR Mike Evans (rib)
- LB Dre Greenlaw (quad)
- LT Trent Williams (neck)
- DE Nick Bosa (calf)
- DL James Thompson Jr. (ankle)
- DL Keion White (hamstring)
- RB Christian McCaffrey (vet day off)
- WR KhaDarel Hodge (knee)
Shanahan said DE Romello Height (hand) and DE Mykel Williams (knee) will be limited.
Height is returning after breaking his hand in Week 2 vs. the Miami Dolphins. He required surgery and couldn't go in Week 3. Williams is still
on the PUP list while he comes back from an ACL tear he suffered a season ago. He's not eligible to return to game action until Week 5, but new PUP rules allow teams to open the practice window for players on PUP starting in Week 3.
More to come...
