Running back Zamir White's tenure with the San Francisco 49ers was short-lived, and now his run with his next team has ended too. Less than a week after the 49ers traded White to the New Orleans Saints in exchange for linebacker Deion Jones, the Saints released him, per Saints reporter Mike Triplett.
The trade sent White out of San Francisco as the 49ers brought in Jones to bolster a linebacker room that's otherwise stacked with veterans and young talent. For San Francisco, moving on from White cleared a spot in a crowded backfield picture, while netting a player who could offer special-teams value and depth insurance.
White's only game action since leaving the 49ers came in a Saints preseason win over the Dallas Cowboys, where he rushed four
times for 23 yards and a touchdown.
A former fourth-round pick of the Las Vegas Raiders before landing with San Francisco, White rushed for 736 yards and two touchdowns across four seasons in Las Vegas. As a vested veteran, he's exempt from waivers and free to sign with any team, meaning his next opportunity — wherever it lands — comes without the 49ers or the Saints in the picture.
The 49ers likely won't bring him back unless pressed by an injury, considering they have 2026 rookie Kaleon Black and 2025 fifth-rounder Jordan James already on the roster as Christian McCaffrey's primary backups for this season.
