The San Francisco 49ers were ravaged by injuries throughout their 2025 campaign, and that trend doesn't appear to be staying in their past, as they've had quite a few players go down in the early days of training camp already.
Among those who are sidelined is wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, who is reportedly dealing with swelling in his knee, which is apparently related to the PCL injury that he suffered last year and that cost him some time.
While we wait for official news on Pearsall's future, ESPN's Adam Schefter provided a small update during an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Friday.
"There are questions about Ricky Pearsall, who by the way right now is continuing to meet with doctors. He's got another meeting planned for Monday right now with another doctor,"
Schefter said. "But he's going through his meetings with doctors, and there are absolute questions about, you know, if and when he'll be able to play this season that have to be answered still by the doctors."
San Francisco brought back old friend Deebo Samuel on Friday to help assuage the situation in the wide receiver room, but it's hard to feel great about the situation.
Pearsall looked really good when he was healthy last year, but it didn't last long. In nine games, he caught 36 passes for 528 yards. Samuel can definitely put up those numbers, even at 30 years old, but this is more of an issue for the future.
The former first-round pick is supposed to be a building block for the 49ers. However, if this injury keeps him off the field for the entire 2026 season, San Francisco will already have to make a decision on his fifth-year option next offseason and picking that up after back-to-back injury-riddled seasons doesn't seem like the smartest choice.
