A rib injury isn't the only issue San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Mike Evans is dealing with.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan on Thursday told reporters Evans would miss the day's practice with ribs and Achilles injuries. He classified the Achilles issue as "Achilles soreness."
Evans initially hurt his ribs in Week 3 vs. the Arizona Cardinals and gutted out games vs. the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks. He looked uncomfortable at times, but still managed to produce at a high level despite the rib ailment. Playing through Achilles soreness may not be an option for the 33-year-old receiver.
This is one the 49ers may just be taking the utmost caution with. There's a chance it's a non-issue by Sunday and he's good to go. However, there's an equal chance this
is something that could linger and ultimately hamper the receiver's stellar 2026 campaign.
Evans in five games this season has 24 catches for 326 yards and three touchdowns. 22 of his 24 receptions have gone for either a first down or a touchdown.
San Francisco practices again Friday, and their official Week 6 injury report will come out Saturday. We'll be keeping a close eye on Evans' status throughout the week.
