The San Francisco 49ers fell to the Atlanta Falcons 29-20 on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, dropping to 6-1 on the season, but more important than the result was the injury to one of their biggest stars.
In the middle of the loss, San Francisco loss running back Christian McCaffrey to an injury, and with the way things have been going for the 49ers, it wouldn't have been surprising to hear that this was a long-term issue.
However, speaking to the media on Monday, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan called McCaffrey's injury a mild hamstring strain and indicated that he should be ready to go after San Francisco's bye week in Week 8.
McCaffrey has been great this season, rushing for 389 yards and a league-leading eight touchdowns on 4.6 yards per attempt
while catching 34 passes for an additional 251 yards.
The 49ers might be able to get by for some time with rookie Kaelon Black as their lead running back if McCaffrey were to miss some time, but it would make things even more difficult for an offense that's already missing so many weapons.
