The San Francisco 49ers made a splash on Tuesday, acquiring old friend DeForest Buckner from the Indianapolis Colts for a 2027 fourth-round draft pick, but that didn't stop them from filling their defensive line room more.
Right after the reports of the trade, the 49ers announced that they've re-signed Kevin Givens to their practice squad and released wide receiver Malik Turner to make room.
Givens, 29, joined the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2019 after a collegiate career at Penn State. In eight seasons, he's appeared in 71 games and recorded 94 tackles, 19 quarterback hits, eight sacks, three passes defensed, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. San Francisco released Givens on Saturday, but it didn't take long for him to return.
Turner, 30, entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2018 out of Illinois. He's bounced around the league a lot since then, including three stints with the 49ers. This is actually the seventh time San Francisco has cut or waived him. In 49 games over seven years, he's caught 29 passes for 414 yards and four touchdowns.
