In order to beat the No. 10 team in the country, which Kentucky football did on Saturday night by knocking off LSU, players have to make big plays. There's no doubting that several Wildcats made difference-making plays when it mattered the most.
On Monday, two of the stars from the victory were honored by the SEC. Wide receiver Kenny Darby was named the SEC Freshman of the Week, and return man Brock Coffman was named the SEC co-Special Teams Player of the Week.
Darby was held in check for most of the game by the LSU secondary. However, late in the contest, he began to make his presence felt. He had 4 catches for 79 yards, including a huge catch in regulation that helped Kentucky tie the game. Then, in overtime, he made a great catch in traffic
that he took to the one-yard line to set up the game-winning score.
Coffman made one of the biggest plays of the game in the first quarter. He fielded an LSU punt, broke a few tackles, and went down the sideline for a 55-yard touchdown return. It was a key play early in the game that kept LSU from getting momentum.
Congratulations to both Wildcats for the awards. They were certainly deserved.
