The Kentucky volleyball team has played a number of ranked teams already this season, and on Sunday, they took on the No. 7 Texas Longhorns. As they have done multiple times already against top ten teams, the Wildcats walked out with a win, this time a sweep 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-21).
Texas opened the first set with a 4-0 lead on three straight errors by Kentucky. However, things evened up at 10 apiece, and stayed close until the Cats scored the final two points to take the set. Set two was also close for the firs half. It was 11-11 when Kentucky scored 5 straight points, and held on from there. Set three ended on back-to-back Texas errors, and a Wildcats win.
With Morgan Gaerte not available due to an injury, Asia Thigpen stepped up, and performed
at a high level. She led Kentucky with 15 kills and a .303 hit percentage. Brooklyn DeLeye had 11 kills, but 7 errors.
The defense was superb once again. Lizzie Carr had 5 blocks, and Kassie O'Brien and Kennedy Washington had 3 apiece. Molly Tuozzo had 12 digs, to lead the way.
Kentucky's next match will be on Friday, Oct. 2 against the Auburn Tigers. That match will begin at 7:00 P.M. ET.
