The Kentucky Wildcats offense had a breakout performance against Texas A&M
that led to a massive upset win on the road. After struggling against Alabama, the offense bounced back in all facets. The Kentucky offensive line dominated up front, opening up lanes in the running game and giving clean pockets for Kenny Minchey to go through his reads. Kenny Minchey was unbelievable in his first SEC road start. He completed 14-of-18 pass attempts for 252 yards and two touchdowns; Minchey's four incompletions were two drops, a throwaway and a pass breakup. Minchey's throw on the deep post for a 53-yard completion to DJ Miller was the best throw of his career. To play like he did
against Alabama and respond like he did against Texas A&M is impressive in a lot of ways, you could not ask for a better performance from your quarterback in his first start on the road.
DJ Miller
DJ Miller finally got his opportunities and capitalized on them against Texas A&M. Miller caught the 53-yard deep post, which led to Kentucky's first touchdown of the game. Miller had five catches on the day for 96 receiving yards, generating a couple of explosive plays down the field. Miller was slated to be the number one target this offseason, and gaining momentum is a huge development for the passing game.
Kenny Darby
True freshman Kenny Darby has impressed early this season as he is the Wildcats leading receiver through three weeks. Darby dropped a perfect pass from Minchey that would have resulted in an explosive touchdown. However, Darby responded with a 42-yard touchdown reception, where he shook the defender to get in for the score. Darby had two catches for 64 yards on the day and continues to be a focal point of the passing game.
CJ Baxter
CJ Baxter is healthy and brings the thunder to this running back duo that is forming for Kentucky. Baxter had 19 carries for 87 yards and two touchdowns against the Aggies. Baxter averaged 4.6 yards per carry and is an extremely physical runner. Baxter has to stay healthy this season, and you can tell he is gaining confidence every week.
Jason Patterson
Baxter is the thunder, Jason Patterson is the lightning in this running back duo. Patterson looks like a completely different player this season, he has gained muscle without losing his explosiveness. Patterson had just six carries against the Aggies, but had 58 rushing yards in the game. Patterson averaged 9.7 yards per carry and his development is promising for this running game.
