We're counting down the final week leading up to the opening game of the 2026 Kentucky football season. As we count down the days until game one, we are getting to know the players on this year's roster, and today we're taking a look at No. 5, Jordan Castell.
Castell is a 6'2", 211 lb safety out of Orlando, Florida. As a member of the 2023 recruiting class, he was rated four stars, and ranked as the No. 208 overall player in the 247Sports composite rankings.
Programs like Ohio State, Alabama, and Florida State offered Castell, but it was the Florida Gators who got a commitment. It would pay off for Florida right away.
As a freshman, Castell played in all 12 games with 11 starts. He recorded 60 tackles, 3 passes defended, and an interception on the
way to being named a freshman All-SEC player. In 2024, he had 55 tackles and 9 pass breakups. Then, in 2025, he had 54 tackles and 2 interceptions before entering the transfer portal at season's end.
Coach Will Stein got a big portal victory by getting Castell to Lexington in the offseason, and he will be a big part of the plan on defense. He and Ty Bryant will form one of the best, and most experienced, safety tandems in the country, with the ability to change games. Castell is big, strong, and has a nose for the ball that will make him one of Kentucky's biggest portal acquisitions.
