Leading into the Kentucky football game against South Carolina, the Wildcats were dealing with injuries, especially on defense. Alex Afari was ruled ineligible, and Tavion Wallace was injured. Aaron Gates also missed the game. They got the win anyway, but heading into their week six matchup against the LSU Tigers, the health issues may have gotten worse.
Coach Will Stein told the media on Tuesday that Kentucky is definitely fighting injuries this week.
“We’ve dealt with some injuries as of late that aren’t, hopefully, season-ending, but that will show up on the injury report tomorrow as definitely questionable for this next game, with the potential, too, to be out.
Multiple players who entered week five healthy left the game early, and could be
out next week, including another linebacker, Antwan Smith. That could leave them dangerously thin at linebacker, which isn't ideal with a top ten Tigers team coming to town. Stein mentioned that Grant Godfrey and Bo Barnes played well, but that they didn't have a lot behind them right now.
There’s no doubt about it. And so we’re practicing other people, you know, guys that are down the line because there’s really nobody left, and we’ve got to find a way.
The first injury report of the week comes out on Wednesday, and more will be known at that time. It sounds like there will be even more names listed than there was last week. Hopefully, not all of them will be out. They'll need all hands on deck to beat LSU.
