Last season, the Kentucky volleyball team lost to Pittsburgh early in the season, then rattled off a long winning streak all the way to the national championship game. They're trying to repeat that feat this year, and got their third consecutive victory by beating UCLA Wednesday night 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-23).
Morgan Gaerte had a breakout game, leading Kentucky with 16 kills and a .364 hit percentage. She also had two blocks, showing just how good she can be in a game against a solid Bruins team.
Brooklyn DeLeye was right behind Gaerte with 15 kills of her own. Asia Thigpen was also solid, with 10 kills and 9 digs. Kassie O'Brien was terrific as well, making terrific passes all match long, and totaling 43 assists.
The match was dominated from
start to finish by the Wildcats, who jumped out early in set one, and never let up. UCLA kept it tight in the third set, but it was too late.
Next up for Kentucky is another familiar foe. The Wildcats face off against Penn State on Sunday, where the Cats will try to make it four straight. The match begins at 7:00 P.M. ET.
