As Mark Pope continues to try and rebuild the recruiting strength of Kentucky basketball, he is looking into future classes at many of the top players. Establishing relationships and setting up visits is a big part of the plan, and it already netted him 2027 forward Ryan Hampton. Now, he's taking a look at 2028 wing DJ Okoth.
Okoth is a 6'6", 180 lb small forward out of Tennessee. A member of the 2028 recruiting class, he is currently rated five stars and ranks as the No. 17 overall player in the 247Sports composite rankings.
Kentucky offered Okoth recently, and now, Kentucky Sports Radio is reporting that Okoth will be taking a visit to Lexington this fall. In fact, he will be taking his unofficial visit during Big Blue Madness on Oct. 2. That
report comes from Okoth's mother.
Last season, Okoth averaged 13 points and 5 rebounds a game, though he showed an even stronger ability to score at this year's Peach Jam. He is also a good defender, using a 6'10" wingspan to block shots and passing lanes.
The Wildcats join a growing list of programs looking at Okoth. Several SEC schools are already involved, including Texas A&M and the Tennessee Volunteers, and more are sure to follow. A commitment won't be coming anytime soon, but Pope is looking to establish a good relationship early on, and hope that it ends with him in Lexington.
