It was a tough week for Kentucky Wildcats quarterback Kenny Minchey, along with the rest of the offense. After jumping out to a 17-13 halftime lead against the Alabama Crimson Tide, the wheels fell off in the second half, and were outscored 32-0 in the second half, resulting in a blowout loss.
Minchey, in particular, looked overwhelmed and much less confident than he did in week one. He wound up completing 18-of-31 passes for 146 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. He also had a fumble, and posted just a 44.6 QBR.
The week two drop in QBR brings Minchey's rating for the season down to just 53.3. However, he should improve as he gets more starting experience in big games, and the coaching staff makes some adjustments with the offense as a whole.
So where does Minchey's QBR rank among all of the starting QBs in the SEC? Here is where they rank, from worst to first.
16. KJ Jackson - Arkansas Razorbacks
- QBR: 33.8
Jackson has struggle so far this season, and against Utah, completed just 14-of-34 passes for 139 yards and an interception. He also ran for 34 yards in a blowout loss.
15. Marcel Reed - Texas A&M Aggies
- QBR: 52.1
Reed hasn't played poorly by any means, so his low QBR is more a result of him just being asked to manage the game. He completed just 15-of-25 passes on Saturday for 163 yards and 3 scores.
14. Kenny Minchey - Kentucky Wildcats
- QBR: 53.3
Minchey didn't look comfortable in the pocket on Saturday, and his weapons didn't give him enough help down the field. Coaches will look to make some adjustments for next week's game.
13. Keelon Russell - Alabama Crimson Tide
- QBR: 56.7
Kentucky's defense really had Russell rattled in the first half, forcing two interceptions. He was better in the second half, but his QBR for the game was just 38.9.
12. LaNorris Sellars - South Carolina Gamecocks
- QBR: 58.1
South Carolina dominated Towson on Saturday, but Sellers didn't play that well. He was just 10-of-23 passing for 96 yards and an interception. He did run for 119 yards, though.
11. Jared Curtis - Vanderbilt Commodores
- QBR: 60.3
Curtis settled in, and the freshman played pretty well, posting a 65.6 QBR for Saturday's game. He should continue to get better as the season goes on.
10. Trinidad Chambliss - Ole Miss Rebels
- QBR: 68.1
Chambliss has picked up where he left off last season. His QBR dipped a bit this week because he didn't put up huge numbers, but he was 23-of-26 passing for 225 yard and 2 TDs.
9. Byrum Brown - Auburn Tigers
- QBR: 68.3
Brown bounced back from a tough week one to post a very good performance in week two. He threw for 223 yards and 2 touchdowns, and ran for another 88 yards.
8. Sam Leavitt - LSU Tigers
- QBR: 68.9
The first half against Louisiana Tech was disastrous for Leavitt and LSU. They pulled away in the second half, but Leavitt went 25-for 38 for 344 yards and score. He also threw 3 interceptions.
7. John Mateer - Oklahoma Sooners
- QBR: 69.4
Mateer struggled a bit against a very good Michigan defense on Saturday. He had just 189 yards passing with 1 TD and 1 interception.
6. Aaron Philo - Florida Gators
- QBR: 85.2
Florida hasn't played any major competition yet, so Philo hasn't been tested. However, he has been very good so far, and 242 yards and 2 touchdowns on Saturday against Campbell.
5. Arch Manning - Texas Longhorns
- QBR: 86.9
Manning played better than his numbers show against Ohio State this week. Drops cost him a few big plays and another touchdown, but in the end, he led his team to a huge win.
4. Kamario Taylor - Mississippi State Bulldogs
- QBR: 88.7
Taylor has been one of the most exciting players in the country this season. On Saturday, he threw for 227 yards and 3 more scores, and ran for 86 more yards.
3. Austin Simmons - Missouri Tigers
- QBR: 89.7
Against Kansas, Simmons had another big day in their win. He was 19-of-29 for 292 yards and 3 touchdowns. He has the Tigers offense playing as well as any in the country.
2. Faizon Brandon - Tennessee Volunteers
- QBR: 90.4
Brandon's stats weren't great on Saturday, but his QBR came in at 88.7 for the game. The Vols are playing well, and early returns on the new passer have been good for sure.
1. Gunnar Stockton - Georgia Bulldogs
- QBR: 92.4
Georgia has dominated their first two opponents, and Stockton has been terrific. On Saturday, he was 13-of-16 for 234 yards and 5 touchdowns.
