Kentucky football defeated LSU on a walk off two-point conversion and the Wildcats now sit at 5-1 and ranked 15th in the country with a trip to Norman looming. We reviewed the Kentucky offense and defense performances from the historic win over the Tigers. Now, it is time for us to spotlight players that both made an impact in the game on Saturday. Let's start with the offensive side of the football, that had over 400 total yards on an elite defense.
Kenny Minchey
Kenny Minchey has been unbelievable in this offense, and he seems to get better every single week. Minchey is incredibly comfortable in the biggest moments, his operation of the two-minute drill to put Kentucky in field goal range without any timeouts was astounding. He then of course capped off the win
with a run up the middle which was originally a called pass play. He completed 23-of-36 pass attempts for 246 passing yards and stepped up when the offense needed him the most.
CJ Baxter
CJ Baxter has an incredible comeback story and he is thriving in Will Stein's offense. Baxter rattled off a 77-yard run on the first play from scrimmage for the Wildcats and punched it in for a score on the next play. That was one of Baxter's two touchdowns in the game, and he had 123 yards on 19 carries for the game averaging over six yards per carry. Baxter is the only running back to rush for over 100 yards on the LSU defense this season.
Kenny Darby
Kenny Darby has been unreal as a true freshman in the SEC, and continues to be the most dangerous pass catcher on this offense. Darby had the 35-yard explosive gain over the middle of the field in the fourth quarter. However, one of the biggest plays of the game was his third down catch in overtime, Darby spun mid catch to avoid the linebacker and Minchey put a great ball on him as he threw it away from the coverage setting up the yards after catch opportunity. Darby kept driving to eventually get to the one yard line, and he had 79 yards on four receptions in this game.
Ja'Kayden Ferguson
Ja'Kayden Ferguson has become the WR4 on this team, but he was forced to play a lot more when Nic Anderson got banged up early in this football game. Ferguson had three catches for 43 yards in this game, but all three receptions cam in critical moments. Ferguson hauled in one of the most difficult catches of the season down the sideline in a contested catch situation and managed to get his elbow in. His other two catches came on the two-minute drive to put the Wildcats in field goal range to force overtime.
We also have to give a shoutout to Lexington's own Brock Coffman, who had the electric punt return touchdown in the second quarter.
