The Kentucky Wildcats advanced to 3-1 on the season with a win over South Alabama on Saturday. However, it wasn't the resounding win they hoped for, and their first half struggle may have caused them to miss the top 25 in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll.
The new poll did see the Wildcats rise to 27th with an increase to 123 votes, but they came up a bit short. Their 45-21 victory was closer than the score indicated after they trailed at times in the first 30 minutes of the game.
Overall, the SEC did well for themselves. The Texas Longhorns and Georgia Bulldogs still hold down the top two spots, while the Alabama Crimson Tide and Florida Gators are both in the top ten. Nine of the conference's teams did make the top 25, and three more, including
Kentucky, received votes.
The Gators were the big winners this week, jumping 14 spots after beating Ole Miss. Mississippi State also jumped 11 spots this week. The biggest drop went to Texas A&M, who fell completely out of the top 30, which also didn't help Kentucky's case.
The Wildcats will face South Carolina next week, and a win should get them into the top 25, but it won't be an easy game. Here are the full results of this week's poll.
