Former Kentucky basketball star Otega Oweh went down in an Oklahoma Thunder preseason game on Tuesday, and limped off the court. On Wednesday, the team announced he had surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon, unfortunately ending his rookie season.
Oweh began his college career with the Oklahoma Sooners, but transferred to Kentucky for his final two seasons. There, he became a star and team leader. He averaged almost 19 points and 5 rebounds per game last season, and was drafted by the Thunder with the 41st overall pick in this year's NBA draft.
So far this preseason, Oweh had played in four games for the Thunder, averaging 6.8 points and 5 rebounds per game. He is one of the players Oklahoma City has on a two-way deal.
Oweh has the tools
to be a solid contributor on an already very good Thunder team. Unfortunately, his debut will have to wait until next season. We wish him a quick recovery from his surgery, and good luck with his NBA future.
