Kentucky football moved to 6-1 after defeating Oklahoma in Norman 21-13. This game was muddied up and Kentucky's offense struggled to consistently put drives together. However, that is what you expected going on the road to face a Brent Venables' coached football team that has an elite defense. We reviewed the Wildcats offense from the win on Saturday night, let's spotlight a few players that had a big impact on helping the offense find enough success to walk out with a victory.
Coleton Price
A lot of these are typically quarterbacks and skill position players, but I thought it would be a perfect time to shine a light on Kentucky Center Coleton Price who has been one of the best at his position in the country this season. Price is an experienced center and he has played
like it all season, but it really stood out in this game. Oklahoma has a dangerous defensive tackle duo with David Stone and Jayden Jackson, but they had very little impact in this football game due to the play of Price and the rest of the interior offensive line. Stone is one of the most talented defensive tackles in the country, and I believe he was held to just one pressure in this game; neither Stone nor Jackson logged a sack or tackle for loss.
Kenny Minchey
Kenny Minchey didn't have an eye-popping box score, but he continued to play how he has all season as the signal caller for the Wildcats. Minchey has shown incredible poise in these road games, made tight coverage throws when it is necessary and keeps taking care of the football. Minchey completed 75% of his passes, threw two touchdown passes and most importantly--zero interceptions. Minchey continues to be efficient at the helm while avoiding negative plays.
Willie Rodriguez
Willie Rodriguez is one of the best tight ends in the country and he proves it every single week on the field. Rodriguez caught both of the offensive touchdowns in this game, the first one on the opening drive running a flat route from a fullback position, he then caught a seam route in the red zone on a beautiful five strong swap four vertical play design. The seam throw for the touchdown was Minchey's best pass of the night to regain the lead in the fourth quarter. Rodriguez had five catches for 38 yards and two touchdowns in Norman.
Nic Anderson
Nic Anderson has quietly got more involved over the last few weeks and it has been a major development for the wide receiver room. Anderson was exceptional against the Sooners, where he started his career and was facing boos from the Oklahoma fans every time he touched the football. Anderson had one of the most impressive catches you will see all season on an in breaking route for a 17-yard gain over the middle of the field. He may have gotten dinged up on that play, but it made it all the more impressive on a night where he had 48 yards on five receptions.
