The Kentucky Wildcats defense had another great performance, as they rattled the Aggies offense to help the Wildcats get a massive 31-21 win
on the road. The third quarter was the difference in this game, Kentucky did not allow Texas A&M to gain a first down the whole quarter. This defense has had a lot of players flash through two weeks. Here are the defensive spotlights that mad an impact against Texas A&M.Sam Greene
Sam Greene made some game changing plays early in this game. He went unblocked on 4th & 1 and made an incredible tackle to get a turnover on downs. He also dropped into a curl flat zone and got an easy interception on Marcel Reed; this was a creative simulated pressure look to a cover 3 rotation from defensive coordinator Jay Bateman. Both
of these plays killed long drives for the Aggies and gave the Wildcats a massive edge.
Lorenzo Cowan
Lorenzo Cowan has a really impressive performance against the Aggies. He had a few dominant quick wins against the Aggies offensive line on just 22 snaps. He had one off an inside stunt against the left guard and got quick wins against the left tackle. Kentucky has a deep rotation on the defensive line and different players are making plays weekly.
Jordan Castell
Castell allowed a big catch to Mario Craver, but Castell has been so steady in the secondary for Kentucky. He got the interception to essentially ice the game, off a horrendous throw from Reed. Castell led the team with 13 tackles and had a pass deflection. Castell has been one of the best defensive players through three weeks for the Wildcats.
Bo Barnes
This is the game where you see why Bo Barnes was a highly touted recruit out of high school. Barnes has great speed for his size, and you saw him run sideline-to-sideline to make a few tackles on perimeter screens. I was more impressed with his work as a blitzer, he had a few reps where he got quick wins against the offensive line. The most impressive one was a bull rush where he overpowered 6'7, 320-pound right tackle Wilkin Formby.
Hasaan Sykes
Hasaan Sykes has been a phenomenal addition to the secondary, and the corner duo of him with Terhyon Nichols can really cause problems for opposing offense. Sykes had an excellent break on the ball that created a pass breakup, but easily could've been an interception. Sykes only allowed a couple of receptions, and he plays with the physicality you want at corner. Sykes and Nichols can cover and are sure tacklers for the corner position.
