The Kentucky Wildcats came up well short on the road Saturday evening. Entering as a top-ten team in the country, something most fans would've thought was impossible before the season started, the Cats faced a rocking Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee. The broadcast made sure everyone knew about the rising decibel levels when the Cats took the field as well.
Kentucky was down 10-6 at half and then 13-6 at the end of the third quarter. The Cats really imploded in the final 15 minutes, ending up down 34-6. However, while the score is telling, they had just 28 fewer yards than the Tennessee Volunteers. The big difference was in the turnover margin, with the Cats having two lost fumbles and an interception thrown. Tennessee didn't turn the ball
over once.
Head coach Will Stein hit on that following the game, calling that one of the deciding factors, but there was another takeaway from some of his comments. The way Stein talks about Minchey, who ended with 224 passing yards and completed 26 of his 34 attempts, is telling. With three games left in the season, Minchey is looking forward and is keeping the energy high. Stein liked what he was seeing and hearing from his captain.

According to Stein, Minchey stood up in front of the locker room and told his teammates there would be no negativity, complaining, or blaming others after the loss.

The Cats season is far from over, and they certainly still control their own destiny. They have Missouri, Florida and Louisville left on their resume, but with a win over LSU and a road victory over the rising South Carolina, the Cats should be looked favorably by the committee.
The play of Minchey will be a factor down the stretch, but the Cats must limit their opponents run game better as well. Things can improve, but with just two losses, Stein has still far exceeded expectations to this point.
